it would be cool if weapons or armor could be upgraded like in real life, or zombies could have mutations...
you know what? let's do that!

Machining table (survivor upgrade system)

we can make a new kind of station that we can call a "machining table", which can cost 75 points and be buyable at wave 0 like all the other stations and because it costs 75 points you can only get very weak pistols without extra ammo, so we can balance it out, and since we can only use the props that gmod provides us, we can make it out of an average table-like shape (similar to the armor workbench) and add some mumbo-jumbo on top of it, and also put a place where there are 2 stacks of 2 trash cans each on both sides, with a little roof on top, a little wall in the back, and then a lamp looking over the main bench. should be pretty easy to make graphically, and also please make it so that it is able to fit in an area at least similar to a fridge, or else it wont be able to go anywhere small.

the machining table will have one main purpose, two sub purposes, and one purpose that makes the main purpose possible. keep in mind, on every one of these your inventory appears on the left and the purposes' purpose appears on the right. purpose. your scrap will be stated directly underneath your points, and if it comes to that, you will be able to throw the scrap like a rock, but instead of being exactly like a rock, the scrap is slightly innaccurate, stuns for 1 second on a headshot, is able to be picked up again like a gun from a dead survivor, and deal twice as much damage than the rock. when you die, your scrap will drop just like weapons and ammo you had. due to gmod's limitations on the props, we can just make the scrap a gravel-gray bugbait, with some more mumbo-jumbo sticking out of it here and there, like ak-47 clips and pistols.

purpose that makes the main purpose possible: weapon scrapping
in order to scrap your weapon, press E on the machining table. when you do that, a menu will appear with 4 options, the first being "scrap weapon". when you click on a weapon, the weapon name, stats, amount of upgrades, amount of ammo for that weapon, how much scrap it will give you, and an option to scrap the weapon to turn it into the amount of scrap it says it will give you will appear. every time you upgrade the weapon, which i will get into later, the amount of scrap you spent on that weapon during upgrading gets added to the amount of scrap it will give you. depending on the power of the weapon without any upgrades, you will get in-between 1 scrap and 8 scrap when you scrap the weapon, with more power meaning more scrap. oh scrap, i said scrap too much, didnt i? (oh come on, if you either dont get it or didnt anticipate that joke then your joke sensibility is scrap [i will stop now])

#1 sub purpose: scrap items
the 2nd option on that menu is the ability to turn your scrap back into weapons, armor, anything that can be bought at the F2 shop. with this in mind, there has to be a scrap:points ratio, and that will be 15 points per scrap, which will also increase to 20 points per scrap if you have a carpenter's hammer, 25 points if you have an electrohammer, and will increase by 5 scrap if you have a mechanic's wrench, allowing a possible 30 points per scrap max. every weapon that requires less than 1 scrap to make at a machining table will not appear, which makes purpose for #2 sub purpose

#2 sub purpose: store items
the 3rd option on that menu is the ability to put items in a storage area which is not shared with other players, so everyone's items are private in there. the main purpose for this sub purpose is to store wrenches and hammers in it so you can make things that cost in-between 15-30 points which you werent able to get with an electrohammer and mechanic's wrench. sadly, some things, like rocks and single pistol ammo boxes, aren't purchasable here. to balance it out so people wont make free points for turning a scrap into a lot of points, then puting your carpenter's/electrohammer and mechanic's wrench in here to buy it back for only 15 points, every scrap will cost 20 points and every 20 points will cost 1 scrap during transition, not allowing any broken strats of being able to get high-level high-tier weapons like chainguns to be purchased at like wave 3, which gives me room for the main purpose!

main purpose: weapon upgrade
coming in at button number 4, we have the main attraction, the upgrade system! when you click on one of your weapons, its stats, ammo, name, and amount of scrap it costs to upgrade it appear. depending on the power of the weapon, it will cost more or less scrap to upgrade, with things like pistols taking 1 scrap, things like weak shotguns taking 2 scrap, weak rifles and explosive weapons taking 3, etc, up to 6 scrap per upgrade. every upgrade will give you a stat increase in this order, repeating and maxing out at 15:
for sharp melee weapons: +5% damage, +5% swing speed, +1% range, +7% bleed chance +2% every non-special stat
for blunt melee weapons, including hammers and wrenches: +3% damage, +2% swing speed, +5% range, +7% stun chance +2% every non-special stat
for non-automatic guns: +3% damage, +4% firing speed, +5% accuraccy, +20% damage on headshot, +2% every non-special stat
for automatic guns: +4% damage, +1% firing speed, +6% accuraccy, +20% less recoil, +2% every non-special stat
for shotguns: +2% damage, +3% firing speed, +10% less bullet spread, +5% chance of firing a slug shot, which decreases total damage by 5% but has point-blank accuraccy, +2% every non-special stat
for explosive weapons: +5% bigger blast and damage, +10% faster projectile speed, +15% bigger blast, +2% every stat (including special stat, because blast radius is kinda important for these types of weapons)
there is a new pre-game buff in the store, where you are able to upgrade yourself, called "cyborg". it costs 40 points, and it goes like this: +10% faster reload speed, +20 max armor, +10 health, +40 stamina, +10% every stat
transition! :D
after upgrade 15, you are able to upgrade further, but for twice as much scrap as normal. at upgrade 16, you unlock a unique ability that your previous gun did not have, and every type of gun has a unique level 16 upgrade, and the true max level is 20, by the way, and levels 17-20 all increase the effectiveness of the ability. i will state the abilities now:
sharp melee: your swings now pierce zombies and hit every zombie around you in that weapon's range, you swing 50% slower, and every hit causes bleeding. levels 17-20 increase your range by 20%
blunt melee: your swings now pierce zombies and knock them back about 10 yards, you swing 50% slower, it costs double stamina to swing, if you hit the ground, every zombie around you in a 3-yard radius get flung into the air one yard, take your weapon's damage in damage, and are stunned for 1/2 a second when they are in the air and is renewed when they hit the ground again. levels 17-20 increase the ground hit radius by 2 yards, your knockback distance by 5 yards, and the stun time by 1/4 of a second
pistols: all of your ammo is transitioned into one clip, removing the need to reload. the 17-20 levels increase every stat by 10%
dual-wield (doesn't matter what type of gun you are dual-wielding): your weapons are combined into one and you gain the ability to both aim and reload twice as fast, and your accuraccy is made 75% better. levels 17-20 all increase the zoom and firing speed by 20%
SMG: you now regenerate ammo passively (and quite fast, but you cant regen ammo while shooting), have a max of 100 ammo, shoot zombie-piercing (and cade-piercing) lasers with infinite piercing, deal 75% less damage per shot, dont have a need to reload, your aim is made point-blank, and your firing speed is doubled. the 17-20 levels double your ammo regen and max ammo each, stacking up to 1600 max ammo and an ammo regen of 100 ammo/sec
shotgun: your shots now riccochet off the walls a max of 3 times, piercing up to 4 zombies per bullet. the 17-20 levels increase the riccochet max by 2 each level, and the piercing by 3 each level, and also add 50% more bullets per shot.
auto assault rifles (both types): your clip size is reduced to 1,your bullet texture is changed to a light-gray bugbait, your bullet now stops after 1.5 yards, your bullet now travels at 5 yards per second, and you now use explosive ammo instead of assault ammo, but when your bullet travels 1.5 yards, it stops and sits there for 3 seconds before turning into a turret auto-equipped with your gun before level 16. this turret is unbreakable and lasts 5 seconds. no maximum turret count. levels 17-20 increase your turret time by 3.5 seconds, and the level 20 upgrade shoots a turret that turns into 3 more level-19 turrets after an extra second passes (in a triangle shape).
non-auto assault rifles (both types): your damage is doubled, your bullets now pierce 5 zombies and riccochet 10 times, you can now use ammo boxes for your non-auto assault rifles every 15 seconds instead of every 80-ish. levels 17-20 increase the amount of zombies you can pierce and amount of times you can riccochet both by 4.
chainguns: your bullet spread is reduced by 40% and when you shoot, you have a 50% chance to gain a bullet instead of using one. levels 17-20 increase your chance to gain a bullet by 10%, and level 20 makes your accuraccy point-blank.
pulse guns: you have infinite clips (not clip size, you still have to reload), your shots now explode to deal 100 damage to where it lands, you dont hurt yourself with those explosions, direct hits now stun that zombie for 1/2 a second. levels 17-20 increase that explosion size by 75% and damage by 50, and increase the stun duration by 1/8th of a second.
grenade launchers: you no longer require ammo to shoot (still need to reload), your explosions deal 30% more damage, and your explosions now light zombies on fire. levels 17-20 each double the fire damage and increase your grenade speed by 50%
rocket launchers: you no longer require ammo to shoot (still need to reload), your explosions are twice as big, your shots no longer damage you, and your explosions now light zombies on fire.levels 17-20 halve your reload speed and increase your damage by 30%. level 20 makes it so that your explosions heal survivors to max HP at the cost of all of their armor instead of not do anything to them, but you dont gain points for healing them.
rifles: you no longer use ammo. instead, hold fire to charge up your weapon at a rate of 25/sec. once it hits 100 (where the clip would normally be), you automatically fire. damage is doubled, accuraccy is made point-blank, your shots penetrate every zombie it hits, stopping only at map boundaries, and it explodes for 400 damage upon getting stopped by a wall. you can no longer zoom. levels 17-20 increase your charge rate by 20, capping out at 100/sec, meaning you can potentially fire every second.

and just to balance everything out, we need a similar system for the zombies, dont we?

Extra nest use (zombie upgrade system)
there is now a nest use other than to set a spawn, and that is so zombies can spend mutagens! what are mutagens, you may ask? well, the mutagens are basically the scrap of the zombie team, but without dismantling. instead, you get mutagens by attacking, having zombies sprout from your nest and get killed by humans (im sure that means something), and taking damage. every 600 damage you take you get a mutagen. every 5 zombies that came out of your nest that die from a human you get a mutagen. every 100 damage you deal to barricades you get a mutagen. every 20 damage you deal to humans you get a mutagen. every brain you eat you get 20 mutagens. mutagens are displayed where points normally would be. lets explain how to use these mutagens

Using mutagens
whenever you press F2 next to a nest, you open up a menu where you are either able to increase a stat, get a new ability for a certain zombie, spawn in as a boss, or unlock a zombie you have not unlocked yet. the stats you can increase are: health (+20%/mutagen), damage resistance (+10%/mutagen, capping at +50%), speed (+25%/mutagen), reach (+20%/mutagen), attack speed (+25%/mutagen), and damage (+15%/mutagen). In order to stop people from speccing in one to five of those stats, there cant be a single stat that is lower than another by 3 mutagens, otherwise it will not let you level the higher stat until you level up the lower stat (except damage resistance). every stat increase is shared with all of your zombies. there is also an option to get an ability for a single zombie, called "strains". if you pick a strain during a game, you will not be able to pick any other strain for that zombie for the rest of the game. i will list them now:
normal zombie: baby zombie (5 mutagens, much smaller body), and swarmer (3 mutagens, resistance only increases with other swarmers, but it increases by 15% every time another is nearby, capping out at 60%)
ghoul: skinless zombie (6 mutagens, now takes 5% more damage but gives ghoul touch to cades now)
mail zombie: steel-boned zombie (15 mutagens, looks and has the same exact stats as a normal zombie at first, but when it dies, it revives, becomes invulnerable for 2 seconds, and gets an automatic 80% resistance)
mummy zombie: pharoah zombie (8 mutagens, now takes 20% less damage and lights things it hits on fire for 10 DPS to cades and 7 DPS to survivors for 6 seconds)
screamer: howler (10 mutagens, instead of running insanely fast when you scream, you stun all humans around you for 1 second, max of 3 out of spawn at once)
mole zombie: eagle zombie (15 mutagens, can fly very fast in the air instead of dig underground, no longer deals damage, can pick up survivors, hold them for 2 seconds, and drop them wherever they please. falling damage is a thing for humans that get picked up by this thing), digger zombie (20 mutagens, 50% less damage, can bypass all cading systems, takes twice as long to go back underground after attacking, charging attacks has double effect)
headcrab: latcher (6 mutagens, deals no bite damage, but now attaches itself to survivors. while attached, it cant move, but you are able to spam left-click to deal 3 damage per click, and have the survivor be poisoned for 4 DPS for 5 seconds afterwards), burrower (8 mutagens, now regenerates while underground, can burrow in rough terrain)
fast headcrab: facehugger (10 mutagens, deals no bite damage, but sets that survivor to be the spawn to the next boss. each one dies if one gets a bite and cant respawn as one after that unless its a new wave, and that survivor dies when the boss spawns in them. there is no warning when you get bitten)
fast zombie: shredder (10 mutagens, deals only 1 damage per hit, but attacks incredibly fast)

next, there is a feature that lets you spawn in as a boss consuming mutagen! in order to spawn in as a boss, you have to spend 10 mutagen to get to spawn as a boss in the middle of a wave. theres also a feature that lets you unlock zombies you havent unlocked yet using mutagen, use 1 mutagen per waves foward that zombie is.
well, thats it! this will take a year!
